My name is Sarah Baumgartner and I’m a selfthaught jewelry designer. I actually am a nutritionist, who always created jewelry for a better work-life-balance. In spring 2016 I started with a silver smithing class, which just got me hooked! Since autumn 2016 I started to do jewelry with the lost wax casting process.
A dead-mould is shaped out of wax. Once the model is finished. it is curounded with liquid gypsum. As the gypsum hardens under the influence of heat, the wax liquifies and runs out of the gypsum. Now the mould is ready for the molten metal. As the metal hardens, it is quenchend. In the water the gypsum is disolved – the raw working piece is born.
